KN-171The Future of VR Driven by HMD Evolution
In August 2023, Meta Reality Lab Research presented to the world two prototypes of HMDs (Head Mounted Displays) that are under research and development. One of the prototypes, the Butterscotch Varifocal, uses variable focus technology to focus on the object at hand, providing a clear image even at close range. Meta Reality Lab Research will give the first demonstration of Butterscotch Varifocal in Japan at INTERBEE IGNITION x DCEXPO 2023 (November 15-18).
In this keynote session, Dr. Yang Zhao of Meta Reality Lab Research, developer of the Butterscotch Varifocal, will talk with Dr. Masahiko Inami, Professor, Special Advisor to the President of the University of Tokyo, and Deputy Director for Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Tokyo. He has long been involved in research on virtual reality, universalization technology, human augmentation engineering, and entertainment engineering.
We have asked Dr. Kiyoshi Kiyokawa, professor of Graduate School of Information Science, Nara Institute of Science and Technology, to speak as moderator.
How will the evolution of HMDs change the future of VR? And will VR lead us to a future where everyone can enjoy it freely? Please enjoy their talk, which extends from the technological development of HMDs to the possibilities of future society.

IG-101 INTER BEE IGNITION × DCEXPO SESSION DCEXPO Program:Create Value in the Age of Super AIーTalk Session Commemorating the 2023 Tsumugi & Takumi Awardsー
The ASIAGRAPH Tsumugi Prize and Takumi Prize, both of which are presided over by world-renowned CG artist Yoichiro Kawaguchi, will be presented for the 17th time this year. The ""Tsumugi Prize"" is awarded to those who have demonstrated outstanding creativity and the ""Takumi Prize"" is awarded to those who have demonstrated outstanding technical skills in the form of various contents. This year, the Tsumugi Award went to Taizo Son, a serial entrepreneur and venture investor who is passionate about launching, supporting the growth, and investing in startups, and helping to foster entrepreneurs who solve the world's problems. The Takumi Award went to Toshiyuki Inoko, President of TeamLab Inc. TeamLab, a group of ultra-technologists led by Mr. Inoko, has developed a borderless approach to manufacturing that combines science, technology, design, and art. TeamLab's digital art exhibitions are installed in Japan and overseas, including Singapore, Dubai, and Macau, and are highly acclaimed and overwhelmingly popular around the world. Yoichiro Kawaguchi will talk with Mr. Son and Mr. Inoko individually to bring out their respective worlds on the theme of value creation in the age of super AI.

TechBiz: Technology Business Acceleration Program" is a project that aims for overseas collaboration and business with content technologies. This year, eight technologies were selected. In this session, ""Creative AI and AIDX open new markets - Beyond Metaverse, Broadcasting and Media Arts"", speaker Akihiko Shirai, Ph.D., who has over 30 years of experience in game engines, museums, media arts, SNS, metaverse R&D, and international educational institutions. He will discuss Creative AI and AIDX (AI Driven user eXperience) and communication, focusing on how they are opening up new markets and impacting the future in disciplines such as the metaverse, broadcasting and media arts continuouslly.
The activities of “AICU Inc.” (AICU.ai) , a creative AI start-up company working in both Japan to US and US to Japan, will be presented, as well as specific recent examples from collaborating companies in the live entertainment and broadcasting industries.
The session will have a discussion part related to the social implementation of generative AI, ethical aspects and specific solution methods will also be addressed, and future prospects will be discussed for the creative domain. Questions from the audience in this domain will provide in-depth insights. Through this presentation, you will gain a deeper understanding of how Creative AI and AIDX can open up new market opportunities. (This session will be held in Japanese)
