Inter BEE 2013: Canare Electric showcased its IBC 2013 top-award-winning Active BNC connector, as well as a thin & light fiber optic camera cable with improved transmission range and 3G-SDI optical converter

Canare Electric exhibited its innovative Active BNC connector featuring a built-in electronic circuit (above photo), as well as a number of new products including easy-to-handle, thin & light fiber optic camera cables and more, at Inter BEE 2013.

■ Innovative BNC connector enables reduction in man-hours spent on development, as well as a smaller product size
The Active BNC connector is a BNC connector with a built-in cable driver and cable equalizer capable of transmitting and receiving SDI signals. Simply by mounting it on the PCB, customers can improve jitter performance and signal waveform without worrying about return loss performance.
The connector has a built-in I/O block, eliminating the need to have an I/O circuit block mounted on the PCB. “It speeds up product development by enabling reduction in man-hours spent on I/O circuit block design and prototyping,” according to the presenter. It also leads to reduced costs by eliminating the need for expensive instruments for measuring return loss.
In spite of all that, it is the same size as a conventional BNC connector. It enables reduced board size and high-density mounting of connectors through effective utilization of available space.
In addition, the Active BNC connector won the 2013 IABM Peter Wayne Award for Design & Innovation, the top award at IBC 2013.

■ Also on display: thin & light fiber optic camera cable with enhanced transmission efficiency, and multi-format 3G-SDI optical converter
Also featured at the booth were a thin and light fiber optic camera cable and a 3G-SDI optical converter.
The thin and light fiber optic camera cable is thinner and lighter than standard fiber optic camera cables and easy-to-handle. It reportedly doubles the transmission range of the company’s previous cables by raising transmission efficiency.
The 3G-SDI optical converter has support for multiple formats, enabling electrical-optical conversion of 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, SD-SDI, and DVB-ASI signals. The EO3G-200, one of the products in the series, is equipped with a BNC monitor output.
