■ First exhibition of the "ZEISS Compact Zoom CZ.2 15-30mm T2.9" lens in Japan
Carl Zeiss Co., Ltd. exhibited a production version of the "ZEISS Compact Zoom CZ.2 15-30mm T2.9" lens. Other production version lenses on display at the Zeiss booth included the "ZEISS Compact Zoom CZ.2" series 28-80mm and 70-200mm lenses currently on sale, mounted on RED EPIC DRAGON cameras. The "ZEISS Compact Zoom CZ.2 15-30mm T2.9" is a cine-style zoom lens which has an image circle that covers the entire 35mm frame, and which completely eliminates lens breathing and focus shift. The lens' interchangeable mount system supports a wide variety of camera platforms including E, EF, F, MFT and PL mounts.
The representative at the Zeiss booth explained the strengths of Carl Zeiss lenses: "At our company, we believe lenses are 'an asset'. Thanks to the interchangeable mount system, it is no longer necessary to purchase a new lens when the camera is replaced, meaning the lens becomes a future investment." The representative went on to comment on the 15mm to 200mm range of Zeiss lenses on display by saying, "Our lenses can be used for everything from documentaries to drama." The "ZEISS Compact Zoom CZ.2 15-30mm T2.9" lens is slated to go on sale between April to May of 2015, with orders already being accepted.
■ Reference exhibition of the "ZEISS Loxia 2/35" lens (not on sale in Japan)
The "ZEISS Loxia 2/35" is a fixed-length, full-frame E-mount lens, custom-designed for use with the Sony a7 camera series. The lens features a 180° focus ring, graduated focal intervals, graduated depth-of-field intervals, and an aperture ring. Additionally, unlike old lens made with mount adapters, this lens retains all focal length, aperture (F-Stop), shutter speed and other Exif (Exchangeable image file format) data. "The iris can be operated smoothly with clicks at intervals, and also offers fluid, silent operations with torque action when shooting video with sound," said the Zeiss representative. The "ZEISS Loxia 2/35" lens currently has no confirmed release date for the Japanese market, and was on display for reference.
