Harmonic will exhibit at Inter BEE 2014 (Booth 4106) to be held over three days from November 19th (Wed.) to 21st (Fri.) at Chiba Makuhari Messe. Targeting broadcasters, they will show their latest technologies and solutions ranging from media production to delivery.
They will demonstrate major products and solutions related to virtual (VM) infrastructures (announced at NAB this past spring), 4K/HEVC video processing, and delivery workflows enabling new services for additional revenue streams.

■ Harmonic VOS platform video processing system
Harmonic VOS is a software-based media processing platform packed with functions required by broadcasters. The booth's theater will introduce the VOS concept.
The new Electra X series is the VOS platform's video processing system (encoder) within a VM (virtual environment). Three models are available: XVM, X2, and X3. Electra XVM is software-based, X2 is an appliance with HD-SDI input, and X3 is an appliance supporting Ultra HD/4K. They feature real-time encoding, branding, up to eight graphics layers, and TS playout functionality.

■ Spectrum video server series
The Spectrum series will be demonstrated to the public for the first time with the latest version 7.7. Spectrum MediaCenter MediaDeck 7000 version 7.7 includes new sending server functions. They include XAVC-I Class 100 and AVI-I Class 100 playout and automatic export (optional) to the high-performance MediaGrid shared storage.
With the automatic export option, you can use SystemManager 6.1 to set the active transfer to automatically transfer the content to MediaGrid, and record to Spectrum at the same time.
As for the Spectrum MediaCenter server, the MCP-2000A model supporting up to 20ch has already started shipping. This model has an effective capacity of 32 TB (1000 hours/50Mbps). An additional module is planned to support 4K broadcasts, which will enable a scalable system supporting mixed 2K/4K broadcasts.

■ 4K editing workflow centering on MediaGrid
The booth will demonstrate a 4K collaborative editing workflow using MediaGrid, a high-performance shared storage. There you will see 4K real-time editing with Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Final Cut Pro X connected to MediaGrid via 10GbE. Also to be demonstrated are the ProMedia Carbon and ProMedia Xpress file conversion tools, and file-based transcoding with the WFS and MediaGrid workflow management tools.

■ Workflow solutions with partners
The booth will exhibit channel branding with Spectrum MediaDeck 7000 and Spectrum ChannelPort, Harmonic Polaris for the playout control of Spectrum video servers, and VATIC ChannelPort Spicier from Video Tech Laboratories. Polaris will have Polaris Advance geared for comprehensive multiple channels, and Polaris Live, a manual device control application. Spicier is based on the channel branding function ChannelPort, and it enables single-click graphics renditions.
They provide a diverse range of functions, including graphics-processing display templates smartly geared for high-profile live broadcasts such as election results, conferences, and sports. Also, their simple OTC function makes daily news deliveries less laborious, and PowerPoint slides at broadcast quality are linked to still images and sent automatically.
With Verimatrix's CAS system (VCAS) coupled with the Harmonic ProStream 9000 MUX/Scrambler, the booth will use actual equipment to demonstrate the Soft CAS without the broadcast-use PRO-CAM and CAS card.
Also, the Ultra HD/4K theater will show a video where you can see the HEVC compression quality created by the company's PURE Engine compression technology.
