Astro Design exhibited the SR-8422, a SDD recorder for Super Hi-Vision which was developed jointly with NHK, and the VP-8407, a color grading equipment for the same system. Compared to the previous 4K recorder which requires 4-unit synchronized operation for recording and playback, the SR-8422 can handle 8Kx4K with just one unit. Solid-state SDD memory without moving parts enables high-speed access and allows editing highlights and playing back in slow-motion at any speed while still recording.
The VP-8407 enables real-time color conversion and correction, chromatic aberration correction, geometric distortion correction, and imaging element flaw correction. In addition to SHV output, it is capable of down-conversion to 4KHD, allowing easy confirmation of the results.
Both pieces of equipment are scheduled to be used for 2012 London Olympics live coverage.
