Hitachi Kokusai Electric exhibited a digital FPU FR-Z200 and a super Hi-Vision (HD) camera co-developed with the NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratory.
An FPU or field pickup unit is a wireless relay device for television broadcasting. It is used as a base station system to receive audio and video signals relayed via an FPU that originate, for example, from a helicopter at scene of a disaster or a mobile unit covering various locations on a marathon course.
Hitachi Kokusai Electric's FPU base station system for reception works for both digital and analog modulation systems, making possible the creation of a base reception system ideal for the digitization of FPU during the transition from analog to digital broadcasting.
The FR-Z200 is a digital FPU in single-cam OFDM 2 mode; maximum output is 1.5W for the single-cam and 1.0W for OFDM. It is equipped with a large monitor on the control section that allows audio and video for input and the decoder to be monitored separately. Operation of the high-frequency section alone is also possible, allowing the head unit to be operated without the control section.
The Super Hi-Vision (SHV) camera attracted attention as a next-generation high-definition camera that realizes a 16X density of conventional HDTVs with a 4,000 TV-line resolution and 330 million pixels.
