INTER BEE IGNITION Keynote Speech: Activists in the Era in Which Everything Outside of Film Is Made into Media
Text: Mariko Nishimura, HEART CATCH
Inter BEE has been implementing INTER BEE IGNITION since 2016. This is a special event to think about changes in the media environment due to the evolution of technology that includes examples together with creators, startup company personnel and entertainment industry stakeholders. We would like to share even more visions and proposals for the future to a wide range of stakeholders from inside and outside the industry than ever before in addition to many visitors from specialized areas in the media industry.
We will invite foremost figures who are making new media to provide sessions under the themes of cities, means of transport, nightclubs and educational programs that are starting to function as media at this year’s INTER BEE IGNITION 2019. We will do this under the premise that media is not limited to video in a sincere response to the era in which all things are being turned into media and in which anyone can become media platformers and content providers.
In addition, activists active on the forefront of city × technology, education and movement making through social media in Japan and overseas will give the keynote speech at INTER BEE IGNITION 2019. They will talk in the present progressive form about the media being created that is not just limited to video.
Keynote Speech Speakers
Ichiya Nakamura, Professor in the Keio University Graduate School of Media Design in Keio University, will convey the latest trends in cities and consumer electronics that have started to function as new media under the title of “Activists in the Era in Which Everything Outside of Film Is Made into Media” in a 30-minute solo speech at the start of the event. At the same time, this will be a valuable opportunity to catch an update for those on the frontline of the trend shift among creators in which YouTubers/VTubers and entertainers are starting to provide content with formats other than TV serving as the primary place to showcase their efforts.
In addition, we have invited Seiichi Saito, President of Rhizomatiks Architecture which is involved in many projects inside and outside Japan in city × technology, and Mai Shiotani, Editor-in-Chief of the milieu opinion media and who is continuing to involve other companies in making new movements, in addition to Ichiya Nakamura for the final 60 minutes of the session. They will give their frank opinions on the state of new media (e.g., creation methods consumption methods) in the era when all things are being turned into media and in which anyone can become a media platformer or content provider.
Furthermore, we have recorded on video contents of advance interviews as video messages with Atsushi Fukuda, a brand consultant and President of Speedy, Inc., and Mika Takagi, General Manager of the Contents Industry Division in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, who are unfortunately not able to attend on the day of the event. We will screen these messages in the venue.
The brand consultant Atsushi Fukuda has been developing production operations in the broadcasting industry in Japan while being active in the broadcasting industry in the United States over many years. He is involved in the management of Non and has exchanged commercial appearance contracts with UNIQLO among others recently to support activities behind the scenes. He will give his advice on the state of the contents business in Japan moving forward while touching on the recent situation in the broadcasting industry from a standpoint of understanding the Japan-United States broadcasting industry and video contents business.
Mika Takagi of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will talk about the challenges and prospects of the contents business at present from a standpoint of supporting the overseas expansion of the contents business with a government perspective. She will also touch upon the roles of the Contents Industry Division where she serves as the General Manager and future prospects.
We plan to unveil passionate debate with the speakers while introducing the messages of these two stakeholders on video in the venue.
Questions:
■ What are the new mechanisms?
■ What kind of activities are taking place to establish the new mechanisms?
■ What is the awareness that you wish to change?
■ What is your definition of media?
We will convey these questions with video messages through panelists and special guests. Accordingly, it is essential to participate in this session if you wish to check the trends in media and creators from 2020 onward. We look forward to your attendance.
